Aspen’s Top Hiking and Biking Trails
Aspen, Colorado is the home to some of the nation’s best hiking trails. From novice trails that are comparatively short to expert trails with multiple repels and climbs, Aspen truly does have a trail for all hiking and biking levels.
The Grottos Trail
This family-friendly trail is .6 miles long and has beautiful scenery with a relatively easy hike. The Grottos Trail is located in the Whiteriver National Forest and is perfect for family picnics and nature walks. Leashed pets are welcome!
Capitol Creek Trail
This one-of-a-kind trail offers two trails, one moderate and one difficult. The moderately scored Capitol Creek Loop is a 6.6-mile round trip and offers some of the most beautiful views in Aspen. The Capitol Lake Trail is a 12.8-mile round trip and offers tent camping for the more adventurous hikers. Ensure proper planning for this trip as you will need a 4×4 to access the trailhead and will lose cell service shortly down.

Although Aspen is known for outdoor adventuring, those who like to enjoy the sunshine and outdoors while taking in a few holes take advantage of the 4 golf courses within 20 miles of the city.
Aspen Golf Club, the oldest and longest course in the area, has a par of 71 and a course rating of 72.1. This 18-hole course opened in 1980 and has a slope rating of 124.
The Maroon Creek Course, part of the Maroon Creek Club, is a private course in Aspen. Rated the most difficult in the Aspen area, the 18-hole course has a par of 70 a slope rating of 140, and a course rating of 73.6.
The 18-hole Snowmass Course is part of the private Snowmass Club in Snowmass Village and delivers a 71.9 course rating. The par 72 course has a slope rating of 143 and is considered to be the easiest course in the Aspen area.
